Molli Malou in the News

Yes! Molli's not only in today's New York Times (reg. req'd)—her name is in the title of the article!

As if that weren't enough, we also got her little mug in there! (Along with our own not-so-little mugs):

So... we got approval of her name, we helped raise international awareness of these absurd laws, and we got our daughter's picture in the paper.

If only we could be so successful with the confounding issue of the Danish Suck!

That's right, Denmark, I'm not just immigrant scum—I'm immigrant scum with a soapbox! (Heh heh... and about four regular listeners.)

More About Sucking

Today's almanac: more on that Danish sucking sound, Denmark grabbing land for oil, Slimane's continuing saga, and Edgar Allen Poe remembered (and forgotten).

A Nation of Suckers

Today's Almanac, as promised, is mostly about about Danish sucking sounds (and some lit crit). Also, since it's been a while and since we just had the flash on our camera fixed, here's a recent shot of Molli (who, I should mention, was completely back to normal within about 24 hours of her vaccinations):

I'm sad to say I missed Cheney v Edwards, but it's all purely academic to me at this point: I got my absentee ballot in the mail yesterday, and my vote will be on its way back to the states by the end of the day today.

Fluff and Wrath

Today's Almanac: innocent fluff and an ugly new symptom of the anti-American virus. Also other stuff.

There's a small chance I may not get to write (or post) tomorrow's Almanac, which you're going to enjoy, in time for publication tomorrow morning. It has a working title of "That Danish Sucking Sound" and I'm looking forward to writing it. Unfortunately (but fortunately) we had Molli vaccinated today and she's being predictably cranky. Just jammed a few doses of disease into her—what's not to love?

Just in case Molli knocks us out of our already untenable routine, here's the dope on tomorrow:

October 5th is the birthday of Kate Winslet (1975), Grant Hill (1972), Mario Lemieux (1965), Bob Geldof (1954), Karen Allen (1951), Vaclav Havel (1936), Ray Kroc (1902), and Chester Arthur (1830). It's Constitution Day in Liechtenstein, Proclamation of the Republic Day in Portugal, and Constitution Day in Vanuatu.

So don't say I didn't tell you.

(Yes, Ray Kroc's birthday. He was born on October 5, 1902. Mr Kroc invented McDonalds, which caused the collapse of the Soviet Union and made us all fat, allowing us to sue his company, which will therefore someday make us all rich if we don't first die of obesity.)

And now that I've given you all that, I'll almost certainly put tomorrow's Almanac on hold until Wednesday. It'll be worth it, I promise. (He said hopefully but a little nervously...)
